On Monday March 17, 2010 the board of directors met to here a proposal by Jerry Peterson of RightSide Inc. The proposal was to initiate a new program to tie together the existing Chicago Youth Programs sponsored by the Busy Man Power Teen Organization and the New Life Movement.
This program will be called "Youth on the RightSide".
Mr Peterson proposed that Busy Man Power Teen allow him to work with member students to provide internet consulting training. These skills will be applied to bring new clients to local businesses and will become a premier Illinois youth program in the process. This program will benefit the participating businesses by bringing them additional revenue through online marketing techniques and the students will learn invaluable search engine optimization techniques.
Students will also be trained in how to manage clients and employees and the basics of running a business. Those students who show promise and desire will be afforded the opportunity to continue to work with Mr. Peterson as consultants and coaches.
It is the hope of Busy Man Power Teen that as their students experience success in this program word will spread to other "at risk" students who will see evidence that there are positive paths available to them to follow. It is entirely possible that this program could go "viral" and we anticipate strong support from school administrators.
A tenant of this program will be that participating students will only be allowed to participate if they
1. Keep their grades up and move towards graduation
2. Stay out of trouble
3. Dedicate themselves to providing excellent service to the client(s) they are assigned to
One of the expected side benefits of this program is a reduction in teen violence. Teens who are actively engaged in a program which provides valuable marketable skills are far less likely to feel hopelessnes and fall into the trap of violence or worse.
Participating local businesses will also benefit from the publicity involved in participating in a community service program such as this. Each new client will benefit from press releases and media presentations announcing their participation. It is anticipated that some businesses may choose to hire the students who have managed their online marketing while in school and employ them full time. What better employee is there than one already familiar with your business and how to draw new customers to your business?
Mr Peterson is working with Busy Man Power Teen chairman Gradie Partlow and presidet Dr. Luverne Murphy to develop the training program to prepare students to provide a high level of service to the clients of RightSide Inc.
As an incentive to the community to participate, Mr. Peterson has offered to pay a referral fee to individuals who bring new clients to RightSide in through the New Life Movement or Busy Man Power Teen Program.
What can change if Chicago at risk youth are given professional skills and grow to understand what life can be when good salaries are available and business ownership becomes a very real possibility?
